De Blasio Announces Plans To Sign Paid Sick Leave Bill Into Law

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- More New York City residents who become ill will now receive paid sick leave.

On Monday, Mayor Bill De Blasio announced that he will sign the new bill into law later this week.

"This is truly a historic day for New York City. This day earns that title. Half a million more people will have paid sick leave when they need it. Half a million more families will be protected," the Mayor said.

The bill expands mandatory paid sick time coverage to businesses that employ five or more people. Once signed, the law will take effect April first.
