Search On For Suspect In Rape In Bronx Stairwell

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday were searching for a suspect they say raped a woman in the stairwell of a Bronx building.

Around 1:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, the 27-year-old victim was riding the elevator in her apartment building, in the University Heights section of the Bronx, when the suspect got on at the second floor.

The victim got off at the fifth floor, and the suspect got off with her and followed her down the hallway, police said. He then grabbed her, pushed her into a stairwell, and raped her, police said.

The victim was treated and released from an area hospital.

Police have released a sketch of the suspect.
