Queens DA: NYPD Detective Shot Partner, Drove Drunk To Hospital
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD detective was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after an early morning shooting involving his partner.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Police Detective Jay Poggi, 58, was arraigned on a criminal complaint charging him with driving while intoxicated. His license was suspended Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint, Poggi had taken out his Smith and Wesson revolver to show the weapon's hammer to his partner, Detective Matthew Sullivan, when the gun went off and a bullet hit Sullivan in the right wrist.
Poggi then allegedly drove Sullivan to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was observed to have bloodshot eyes.
A field sobriety test was administered on Poggi, which allegedly resulted in a reading of .113 percent, above the legal limit of .08 percent in New York.
Detective Poggi later allegedly refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test at the 112th Precinct.
Poggi was released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on June 16.
