Borough Cup Championship Games To Be Played At Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYC All Star Sports Group has announced that the U12 and U13/14 championship games of the Borough Cup will be held at Yankee Stadium.

Craig Carton, co-host of WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" show -- which airs from 6-10 a.m. on weekdays -- is one of the Borough Cup's founders.

"We are thrilled that the Yankees have taken an active role in partnering with us on the Borough Cup," Carton said. "Clearly, there's no better place in the world to play these games than Yankee Stadium."

The championship games will be played on August 14.

"It is exciting for us to host the Borough Cup at Yankee Stadium," Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost said. "We hope that providing this opportunity to local youth inspires them to do great things on the field and in the community."

The NYC All Star Sports Group was created by Carton, former Mets great John Franco and Brooklyn Cyclones assistant general manager Gary Perone. The inaugural cup will be held this summer.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and Mets right fielder Curtis Granderson are ambassadors for the event.

"It's truly an honor to serve with Curtis as an ambassador for the Borough Cup," Teixeira said. "No matter who you root for, the Borough Cup is going to make every kid and community that participates a winner."

The NYC All Star Sports Group expects hundreds of teams to compete in the U9 through U13/U14 divisions.

"The only way to increase awareness and play in New York City is to have something to play for, and the Borough Cup does exactly that," Franco said.
