Officials At L.I. Pharmaceutical Company Face Charges Over Unapproved Drugs
NEW YORK(AP) -- The top two officials at a suburban based pharmaceutical company are facing charges they sold $17 million worth of counterfeit or unapproved drugs.
William Scully and Shahrad Rodi Lameh are due in U.S. District Court in Central Islip later Wednesday.
They are the president and vice president of a company called Pharmalogical, Inc. It is also known as Medical Device King of Great Neck.
They are charged in a 73-count indictment including distribution of misbranded and counterfeit prescription drugs. The names of their attorneys were not immediately available.
In February, the FDA issued an alert saying Pharmalogical was distributing a counterfeit version of a cancer drug called Altuzun.
They also are accused of selling intrauterine birth control implant devices made in Finland that were not approved by the FDA.
