PHOTOS: Carmelo Anthony, Phil Jackson Talk Knicks Over Dinner

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The wooing of New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has begun.

As WFAN's Craig Carton reported Wednesday morning, Anthony, who plans to opt out of his contract this summer, had a lengthy dinner with Knicks president Phil Jackson at American Cut in Tribeca on Tuesday night.

Twitter user Josh Wolfe wrote that the two were eating in a private room. His photos of the sit-down have been making the rounds on social media:

The New York Post cited a source on Wednesday who said Anthony and Jackson appeared to be engaged in "deep conversation."

Anthony, 29, missed the playoffs this season for the first time in his career. After the season finale, the seven-time All-Star said he'd like to stay in New York, but landing with a contender would be his priority in free agency.

That means Jackson has work to do, and it starts with hiring a new head coach now that Mike Woodson is out of the picture. Steve Kerr is thought to be the front-runner for the job.

Part of the dinner discussion focused on Kerr's background with Jackson, according to ESPN.

As for Anthony, Jackson said last month he hopes the forward "is true to his word" and agrees to take less money to help the Knicks build a winner.

Anthony said during All-Star weekend: "I told people all the time, always say, 'If it takes me taking a pay cut, I'll be the first one on (Knicks owner James) Dolan's steps saying take my money and let's build something strong over here.'"
