Dirt Biker Struck, Killed By Truck In East Harlem

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A dirt biker was struck and killed by a truck Tuesday, after he struck a car and fell down in East Harlem.

Police were called out shortly after 12:30 p.m. to 105th Street and Third Avenue, where they found Shamel Jefferson, 28, at the scene with severe injuries to his torso. Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police learned that Jefferson had been driving an unregistered and uninsured Yamaha dirt bike north on Third Avenue in the left lane.

The driver of a gray Chrysler 300 in front of Jefferson tried to make a left turn onto 105th Street, and the dirt biker tried to change lanes and struck the rear passenger side of the Chrysler, police said.

The motorcyclist fell into an adjacent lane and was struck by a 2014 Freightliner truck, police said.

All drivers remained at the scene, and no one was arrested, police said.

The investigation continued late Tuesday.
