De Blasio Finally Seals Deal On Bagel Bet With Montreal Mayor

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- We have a deal. But that was a close one.

"De Blasio time" nearly came back to bite New York's mayor in a forever-pending bagel wager over the Rangers-Canadiens Eastern Conference finals.

It started on Friday, when Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre tweeted to Bill de Blasio:

De Blasio's response came -- eventually -- on Monday with the Rangers holding a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Coderre tweeted that it was interesting de Blasio, who infamously operates on his own time, would wait until after Saturday's Game 1, in which star Canadiens goalie Carey Price suffered a series-ending injury. But he still gave his terms, confident his Montreal club would bounce back.

De Blasio was quicker to the punch this time, but might have been pressing his luck with a last-minute addition: "loser must declare the winner's city's bagels the best and fly the winner's flag over their City Hall. Deal?"

Luckily, Coderre agreed before the Rangers went up 2-0 on Monday night. With New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist playing like a man possessed, the Montreal mayor may regret not taking a few days of his own to respond.
