The majestic USS Oak Hill captivated kids and grownups alike.
“It’s so big and so many wires and everything,” said Commack resident Amanda Alvy.
“It’s really cool that they let the kids and everybody get on the equipment — the boats, tanks, transport ships, they let them touch the weapons,” said Tom Alvy.
The Alvy family made the trek from Long Island.

But Fleet Week is also about getting a taste of what it takes to make it in the military.
Eleven-year-old Amy Pardo managed to squeeze out 20 push-ups.
“It was pretty hard,” she said.
A few piers down, over at the Intrepid, there was more hands on action with robots and aquatics.
For many of the visitors, the best part of all was the opportunity to “See the servicemen and thank them for their service to the country,” said Alvy.
