Lindsay Lohan's Mother Avoids Jail In Drunken Driving Case

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The mother of oft-troubled actress Lindsay Lohan won't go to jail for speeding and driving drunk on a Long Island highway.

A judge Tuesday ordered Dina Lohan to pay over $3,000 in fines and fees. She'll also perform 100 hours of community service and participate in a drunken driving program.

The 51-year-old's driver's license remains suspended. Her sentence includes a requirement that she install an alcohol-detecting ignition lock on her vehicle.

Lohan pleaded guilty in April to aggravated driving while intoxicated and speeding on the Northern State Parkway in Oyster Bay. She claimed she was fleeing paparazzi.

State police said the Merrick resident was driving 77 mph in a 55 mph zone last September. A breath test revealed her blood-alcohol level to be .20 percent — more than twice the legal limit, police said.

Lohan began attending substance abuse counseling following her arrest.

Her daughter has had her own history of substance-abuse problems. The "Mean Girls" actress pleaded guilty to drunken driving in 2007 and has been in and out of drug rehab for years.
