Yonkers Man Gets 5 to 15 Years In Prison For Fatal DWI Crash

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Yonkers man was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in connection with a fatal car accident in October, 2013.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore, Mario Garcia-Sura was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated. He pleaded guilty to the charges in April of this year.

On Oct. 20, 2013, Garcia-Sura had picked up a passenger in his 2001 black Ford Mustang and the two went about town stopping at neighborhood bodegas and drinking beer, the DA's office said.

Around 5:13 p.m. Garcia-Sura was driving down Riverdale Avenue near Franklin Avenue at a high rate of speed when he collided with a 2004 gold Hyundai Sonata, driven by Sreeraj Chandran.

Chandran was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 6:12 p.m., the DA's office said.

Garcia-Sura's passenger was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was admitted for severe injuries to his lower body.
