YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A Yonkers man was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in connection with a fatal car accident in October, 2013.
According to Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore, Mario Garcia-Sura was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated. On Oct. 20, 2013, Garcia-Sura had picked up a passenger in his 2001 black Ford Mustang and the two went about town stopping at neighborhood bodegas and drinking beer, the DA’s office said.
Around 5:13 p.m. Garcia-Sura was driving down Riverdale Avenue near Franklin Avenue at a high rate of speed when he collided with a 2004 gold Hyundai Sonata, driven by Sreeraj Chandran.READ MORE: Robert Durst Hospitalized With COVID-19, His Lawyer Says
Chandran was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 6:12 p.m., the DA’s office said.
Garcia-Sura’s passenger was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was admitted for severe injuries to his lower body.
