J.R. Smith: If Carmelo Signs With Heat, I'll Stop Talking To Him

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If -- and when -- Carmelo Anthony opts out of his contract and becomes a free agent, he'll have no shortage of suitors.

Imagine if the 2013 NBA scoring champion actually bolted Manhattan to join forces with the "Big 3" in South Beach?

The dynamic scorer would likely become public enemy No. 1 in Manhattan. He would also, it appears, lose a friend.

On Saturday, a Twitter user asked Knicks guard J.R. Smith if he would continue talking to Anthony if his teammate signed with Miami.

Smith didn't mince words.

Ouch. It doesn't get much colder than that.

Smith later softened his stance a bit, but it's clear that he won't be pleased if the Knicks' superstar leaves town.

It's widely expected that Anthony will opt out of his deal next week and explore his options. But even if he does opt out, it's very conceivable that he could end up re-signing with New York.
