Report: Kevin Garnett Expected To Return To Nets Next Season

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Kevin Garnett has some unfinished business to attend to in Brooklyn.

According to ESPN, the 38-year-old center is preparing to return to the Nets for the 2014-15 season. Garnett's second season in Brooklyn would mark his 20th in the league.

General manager Billy King, who acquired Garnett on the day of the 2013 NBA Draft, said that he still believes the future Hall of Famer can play at a high level.

"I think he's preparing earlier this year than he did last summer," King said, according to the website.

There was some speculation that Garnett might retire, though he clearly believes that he still has something to offer. The big man's decision also makes it more likely that teammate Paul Pierce will re-sign with Brooklyn instead of leaving for greener pastures.

The Nets came into the 2013-14 season as title contenders behind Garnett, Pierce, Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson, but the squad struggled mightily out of the gate under first-year head coach Jason Kidd.

The Nets turned things around, eventually finishing 44-38 and tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference.

After nipping the Raptors in seven games in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Brooklyn ran into a brick wall in the Miami Heat. After beating LeBron James and company four times in the regular season, the Heat ousted the Nets in five games.

Garnett is coming off the worst statistical offensive season of his career. In his first act with the Nets, the 2004 NBA MVP played in just 54 games. He averaged 6.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 20.5 minutes per game.
