SPCA: Dead Dog Found Washed Ashore In Lobster Crate On Long Island

EATONS NECK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County SPCA is investigating after a dead dog was found washed ashore in a lobster crate on Long Island.

The pit bull mix was found on a beach along Old Winkle Point Drive in Eatons Neck Tuesday evening.

The dog appears to have been jammed into the lobster crate, which was wired shut and weighed down with bricks, Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross told 1010 WINS.

"I guess whoever did this didn't intend for it to wash ashore, obviously they wanted to sink it if they put bricks in there," Gross said.

The animal was wearing a collar.

Gross said the SPCA will rule whether this is a case of animal cruelty pending the results of the necropsy.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
