Police: Partially Dismembered Body Found In Bay Shore Parking Lot

BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County Police are investigating the death of a woman whose partially dismembered body was found in a parking lot in Bay Shore.

Two people who were walking to the ferry found the body in a municipal parking lot on Gibson Street just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The woman has not been identified. The Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.

Speculation mounted on Tuesday that the discovery might be connected to the discovery of 10 bodies dumped along Ocean Parkway in Gilgo Beach, back in 2010 and 2011. Police responded in a statement.

"There are no known links between the partially dismembered body found in Bay Shore today and the Gilgo Beach murders," the Suffolk County police statement said. "However, in the interest of being thorough, Suffolk County Police Department Canine units are conducting a search in the Gilgo Beach area. The investigation is continuing."

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
