Park Avenue Dermatologist Dr. Cheryl Karcher Arrested For Alleged Prescription Drug Scam

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A noted dermatologist pleaded not guilty Wednesday to writing bogus prescriptions for her own benefit.

Dr. Cheryl Karcher was arrested earlier in the day at her Park Avenue office. She is charged with criminal possession of narcotics and fraud, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell.

Karcher is accused of writing fraudulent prescriptions using former and current patients' names without their knowledge. The celebrity skin doctor would allegedly tell pharmacists she was filling the prescriptions for patients, but instead took them herself.

"Dr. Karcher has possessed hundreds, if not thousands, of Percocets, amphetamine and other drugs over the past three years, drugs she obtained through fraud," prosecutor Jeffrey Linehan told a judge at Karcher's arraignment, Cornell reported.

The doctor was released without bail.

Sources told CBS 2 that Karcher had a back condition.

The Drug Enforcement Agency is involved in the investigation.

Karcher is known as an expert on the latest cosmetic procedures. She is frequently interviewed on TV -- including the show "The Doctors" -- quoted in national magazines and consulted by the Miss Universe pageant on all the latest wrinkle-removing treatments, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported.
