NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The father of one of two Long Island teens injured in an apparent hit-and-run accident are appealing for the driver to turn himself in.

Matthew Donde, 18, of Wantagh and his girlfriend Jessica Sill, 15, of Levittown were struck by an unknown vehicle after they had car trouble on the southbound Wantagh State Parkway south of Merrick Road around 3 a.m. Tuesday, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

"They remember getting out and they remember looking at my son's car and then I guess they turned around and that's all they remember," Matthew's father, Brian Donde, told Rivera. "The next thing he remembers is them cutting his pants off in the ambulance."

Matthew suffered a broken pelvis and a head injury. He remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Sill, who suffered a broken collarbone, could be released from the hospital Wednesday, a Nassau University Medical Center spokesperson said.

Police are searching for the driver, who fled on the southbound Wantagh State Parkway towards Jones Beach, Rivera reported.

"You left my child on the ground to die," Brian Donde said. "This is somebody that has no conscience."

Anyone with information is asked to call Troop L Headquarters at 631-756-3300.
