Cops: Woman's Body Found In The Water Near Governor's Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police say a woman's body has been found in the water off Governor's Island.

Medical examiners were working Saturday to identify the woman and what caused her death.

The New York Police Department got a call around 2 p.m. Friday that someone was in the water near the shore of the island in New York Harbor. Officers found the woman's unresponsive body near the island's southwest shoreline.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Governor's Island is a former military installation that is now a historic site and park. It's a few hundred yards off the southern tip of Manhattan.
