SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A 3-year-old boy was accidentally shot Monday evening in a home in Smithtown, Long Island.

The child had been wounded in the abdomen by a bullet, police said.

The boy was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, and later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
He was in surgery late Tuesday.
