Port Authority To Close Bayonne Bridge Briefly Thursday

BAYONNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) –  Those traveling between New Jersey and Staten Island Thursday will have to plan their commute around a temporary closure of the Bayonne Bridge.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said traffic will be stopped in both directions for about 20 minutes at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. while workers safely position oversized trailers on the span.

Motorists are encouraged to use the Goethals Bridge to avoid delays.

The closure is part of a $1.2 billion project to raise the roadway to give larger ships access to New York and New Jersey ports. The new bridge roadway will have wider lanes and a median.

The span connects Bayonne with Staten Island.
