Seen At 11: New Breed Of Apps Put High-Tech Pet Help At Your Fingertips

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- From transporting to walking to feeding, and more the latest apps put high-tech pet help right at your fingertips.

Bridget Griffin feels bad about leaving her dog Rosie alone for too long.

"As a pet owner you love your dog more than anything in the world, but you do have responsibilities," Griffin said.

Now, as CBS 2's Kristine Johnson reported, pet owners can breathe a sigh of relief thanks to a series of apps that promise to help them be in two places at once.

"When you need help you just send out a woof. A woof is basically a request for pet care. It can be walking, feeding, house-sitting, even boarding," Doggy BNB Co-founder Adam Pokornicky explained.

Doggy BNB is like a social network for pets. When a user needs help an alert goes out to their most trusted family and friends, and then to their most trusted family and friends, and so on until someone volunteers.

Pokornicky came up with the idea after having trouble finding last-minute care for his beloved dog Maggie.

"I didn't want to do that kennel thing again and sort of didn't go on the trip, so I said, 'there's got to be something better,'" he said.

If you want to go on a trip and take your pet with you 'Bringfido' will not only help you find pet friendly places to stay, it will also make the reservation for you on the spot.

The app is the brainchild of Melissa Halliburton who traveled more than 20,000 miles with her dog 'Ace' to find pet friendly hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions.

Many pet owners know how hard it is to get a ride with their dog or cat, but the app 'Whisk' uses real-time GPS to find the nearest available driver who doesn't mind chauffeuring both people and pets.

You can also use GPS to socialize your dog. The app 'DoggyDates' uses GPS to help you locate nearby dogs and their owners to walk with or share some playtime..

For Griffin, sites like Doggy BNB have helped make having a dog a lot less complicated.

"It's made having a dog a lot more convenient," she said.

You won't have to spend a lot on pet apps, most of them are free.
