Report: Yankees Are Finalists For Cuban Outfielder Rusney Castillo

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Yankees could use an offensive boost, and one might be on the way.

According to ESPN.com, the Bombers are finalists in the pursuit of Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo.

The website reports that other likely finalists include the Red Sox, the Tigers, the Phillies and the Giants.

The 27-year-old Cuban defector is expected to sign a five-year deal worth between $50-$60 million, according to ESPN.com.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pounder is expected to sign in the coming days, but it still remains a mystery which club is the clear favorite for his services. And it's possible that a sleeper team could come out of the woodwork and end up shocking the rest of the league.

The Yankees don't have much room for an outfielder at the moment, with Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki, Carlos Beltran and Martin Prado on the roster. Beltran is banged up, however, and Prado is a natural infielder.

Castillo has played some infield in Cuba, and according to CBSSports.com/WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees have interest in the speedster playing second base in the Bronx.

Castillo is represented by Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports.
