Princeton Employee Faces Tough Decision Over Medical Marijuana

Don Dezarns has worked in the Princeton dining department for 18 years. He recently got a medical pot card for his inflammatory bowel disease.

"I was just hoping to be able to use a non-intoxicating strain while I was working," he told WCBS 880's Alex Silverman.

The university told him to stay at home.

"Hoping it's a nightmare so to speak and I'll wake up and it'll be over and I gotta go back to work," he said.

Dezarns tried to do that on Tuesday morning, but two hours later he was called in by human resources.

"Actually did sound like that they were interested in hearing what I had to say, but they didn't want me on campus right now," he explained.

A Princeton spokesman said that Dezarns is on paid leave and that they will discuss accommodations for his disability.

"I'm not going to be intoxicated at work," he said.

Dezarns is a pot advocate who has made several runs for office. When asked if this was a publicity stunt he shrugged it off and said he wouldn't win.
