NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — The teenager accused of killing 4-year-old Ariel Russo, while attempting to evade police, reportedly tried to escape law enforcement again on Friday.

Franklin Reyes, 18, complained of chest pains and was taken to the New York Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan emergency room on Friday, the Daily News reported. Reyes was cleared to leave around 9 p.m. when he decided to make a run for it while being led back to a Department of Corrections van, according to the published report.

A source told the Daily News that in spite of his complaints about chest pains Reyes ran ‘like a bat out of hell.’

NYPD officers joined the chase and nabbed Reyes near John Street following a 15 minute pursuit.

Reyes faces manslaughter charges in connection with Russo’s death.

“He has no regard for the safety of others,” Russo’s mother Sophia said.

Reyes is currently being held on $50,000 bail in a separate incident in which he allegedly hit a cop and dragged him with his vehicle in Washington Heights.
