Matt Harvey On WFAN: I'm Counting April 6, 2015 As A Win

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Matt Harvey can't wait to get back on the mound in 2015.

The Mets' ace, who missed all of 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, is starting to feel like his All-Star self.

"Very good," Harvey told WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on Thursday morning when asked how his elbow is. "Everything is healthy. I think I'll probably get one or two more bullpens. We haven't been on radar guns, (but) everything feels normal."

General manager Sandy Alderson has hinted that the Mets might not spend much money again this offseason despite glaring needs at shortstop and left field.

Harvey maintains that he's not concerned about that, and rather is focused on getting the ball on Opening Day 2015.

"I think those are things you can't really worry about," Harvey told Boomer & Carton. "I'm looking ahead to April 6 and counting (the) Washington Nationals as a 'W.' I'm looking forward to it, and whatever trades or whatever they make this offseason, I think as players we have to do what we can and prepare to the best of our abilities so we're ready for next year."

Carton wants Harvey to pitch right now, whereas Boomer agrees with the organization's approach that the fireballer should continue to take things slow and be cautious.

Carton couldn't help himself. He asked Harvey a hypothetical question: If you had to get on the mound in the ninth inning right now and get a batter out, could you do it?

The confident 25-year-old responded without a beat: "I think so."

The right-hander understands that as frustrating as it may be, the right move was to wait until next year instead of pushing it.

"I'm completely on board with whatever they have, whatever the doctors and Sandy Alderson has planned," Harvey said. "I'm completely for that."
