Man With History Of Stabbing Women Sentenced

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A man who has been attacking women with knives for decades and has spent half his life in prison as a result may never get out again.

Lucius Crawford was given the maximum sentence-- 25 years to life-- Tuesday after being convicted of fatally stabbing his girlfriend, Tonya Simmons, at his Mount Vernon home in 2012, according to The Journal News.

The same jury that convicted Crawford of murdering Simmons could not reach a verdict on a second knife killing. Crawford is awaiting trial in the Bronx on a third murder charge.

The 61-year-old Crawford has spent about 30 years in prison for non-fatal stabbings of women in New York and South Carolina.

In transcripts released last year, Crawford said he stabbed women for no reason, usually while high.

Crawford has a long history of stabbing women and has done two prison sentences for such crimes, CBS 2's John Slattery reported in 2012.

"This is probably the closest thing to a serial killer Mount Vernon has seen in a long time," said Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Carl Bell.
