NJ Lawmakers Push Bill To Improve Transparency, Accountability At Port Authority
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey lawmakers advanced a bill designed to improve transparency and accountability at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
It moves to the full Senate after a Senate committee approved the bill on Thursday.
New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and state Sen. Bob Gordon are prime sponsors of the bill, which grew from lane closings at the George Washington Bridge a year ago. The closures appear to have been politically motivated.
New York Assemblyman James Brennan has sponsored identical legislation that cleared both houses of that state's Legislature.
The Port Authority on Wednesday announced it is changing its rules to open up more access to public records.
