New Jersey Given Almost $1.5B In Federal Transit Grants
HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Almost $1.5 billion in federal transit grants are coming to New Jersey.
Senator Bob Menendez says the projects that will start over the next few months will work to stop flood-related problems like the ones left after Superstorm Sandy two years ago.
"We have to make sure that we rebuild in ways that make us better prepared," he told reporters, including WCBS 880's Levon Putney.

"This is categorical money. We know where it's going to be spent," Congressman Bill Pascrelli said. "The state of New Jersey's not going to decide where it goes and where it doesn't go.
Recalling Sandy, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer said the grants will help to protect the southern border where water came in two years ago.
"What we need to do in order to protect Weehawken, Hoboken and northern Jersey City is completely envelope," Zimmer said.
A backup New Jersey transit grid for trains will also be installed.
