Hundreds Protest Iran President Outside UN Complex

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Hundreds gathered in Manhattan on Thursday to protest Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during his remarks before the U.N. General Assembly.

Former U.S. diplomats John Bolton and Bill Richardson were expected to address the protesters. Former Sen. Tom Daschle of South Dakota and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter Kerry Kennedy were also expected to speak.

Security was tight in the plaza outside the U.N. complex as chanting protesters gathered in the rain.

Organizers say they hope to spotlight what they call the Rouhani regime's poor record on human rights, its sponsorship of terrorism and its deception in nuclear negotiations.

Some chronicled the demonstration on Twitter:

On Thursday, Rouhani told the U.N. that a nuclear agreement is possible before the November deadline.

He also warned world leaders that Islamic terrorists' goal is to destroy civilization.
