Cops: Brooklyn Man Posing As Officer Pulled Driver Over, Threatened To Shoot Him
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A Brooklyn man has been indicted after police say he posed as a police officer, pulled over a driver in Crown Heights and threatened to shoot him.
On Sept. 5, Maurice Joiner, 20, allegedly pulled behind a van near Utica Avenue and Lincoln Place after the vehicle reportedly cut him off and the two drivers exchanged words. Police say Joiner then turned on flashing red and blue lights, similar to police emergency lights, which were on the dashboard of his Lincoln Aviator.
The driver of the van pulled over and Joiner allegedly pulled alongside the vehicle, displaying what looked like a pistol and shield and told the driver he was going to "blow his head off."
The passengers of the van took down Joiner's license plate and called 911. Police then pulled Joiner over where they found a pistol, handcuffs, red and blue lights, a bulletproof vest, mace and a gold security officer shield.
Joiner faces charges of criminal impersonation, menacing, harassment, possession of an imitation pistol and possession of mace.
If Joiner is convicted, he could face up to four years in prison.
