6 Puppies, 2 Adult Dogs Rescued From Under L.I. Shed

SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - The Suffolk County ASPCA says police and animal control officers ripped up the floor of a shed to rescue a litter of puppies that were trapped underneath.

Police responded to a 911 call about animals in distress in Shirley on Friday.

An officer found one newborn puppy hidden under a pile of leaves and heard other puppies crying from under the floor of a shed.

Emergency services officers used power tools to remove floorboards from the shed and free the pups.

Suffolk County SPCA Detective Paul Llobell says officers rescued six puppies and two adult dogs from under the shed.

Llobell told 1010 WINS police called the ASPCA believing someone might have buried the puppies alive.

Instead, Llobell believes the mother might have been looking for a safe place to have her puppies away from other animals and got trapped.

The dogs were described as a Yorkie, a terrier mix and a litter of terrier mix puppies.

All are in good health.
