1 Firefighter Dies, 3 Others Injured In Hartford, Connecticut Blaze

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Connecticut firefighter has died and three others have been injured in a house fire in Hartford.

The fire broke out Tuesday night at a two-story, wooden home in northwest Hartford.

Fire and police officials did not immediately release any details. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and Mayor Pedro Segarra confirmed the casualties and sent their condolences to the firefighters' families. They called the firefighter who died a hero.

"Last night's tragic events are another reminder of the incredible sacrifice that our state's first responders make on a daily basis," Malloy and Wyman said in a joint statement.  "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the hero we lost and those who were injured in the line of duty in our capital city."

Malloy has directed flags to fly at half-staff in honor of the fallen firefighter.

The three injured firefighters are expected to recover, CBS 2 reported.

Residents made it out safely, and fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze.
