NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police have arrested a man who they say tried to rape a woman last week in a bar in Hell's Kitchen.

Ricard Lambert, 34, of Manhattan, has been charged with first-degree attempted rape, police announced Sunday morning.

The attack happened when the 34-year-old victim was exiting the restroom at the Flaming Saddles Saloon -- a popular gay cowboy bar at 793 Ninth Ave. -- around 11:35 p.m. on Oct. 3, police said.

The suspect choked the woman until she lost consciousness, threw her to the ground and ripped off her underwear, police said.

Security officers at the bar spotted the suspect, and he ran off, police said.

Police say Lambert has been arrested at least two dozen times. He was being held by police and could not be immediately contacted.
