Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis Pleads Guilty In Tax Case
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis faces up to two years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to federal tax charges.
The 76-year-old mayor pleaded guilty in White Plains to two counts of willfully failing to file federal income tax returns.
Davis' sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 26.
As part of his plea, Davis admitted failing to disclose to the Internal Revenue Service that he sold a Mount Vernon building in 2003 that he had purchased in 1988.
He also admitted that he failed to file a federal income tax return for 2011, when he earned about $106,000, authorities said.
Court papers also say Davis failed to report rental income for a 10-year period ending in 2012.
