Police Searching For Four Suspects In Brooklyn Attack On Transgender Woman

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are on the hunt for four men accused of attacking a transgender woman in Brooklyn.

It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday in Bushwick.

Police said the four men walked up the 28-year-old victim on Bushwick Avenue and began making anti-gay statements. They then beat and kicked the woman, police said. One of them also threw a clear plastic board at the victim's head, police said.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

Two of the suspects were caught on a store's surveillance video.

One was described by police as a black man wearing a gray sleeveless sweatshirt with the word "freedom" on it along with a dark long sleeve shirt, gray sweatpants, white sneakers and ski cap.

The other, described by police as black man with close cut hair, was wearing a blue Nike hooded sweatshirt with blue sweatpants.

The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

"There is no place in New York for such bigoted and hateful acts and I urge anyone with knowledge of this assault to come forward and alert the police," Comptroller Scott Stringer issued a statement. "We pride ourselves on tolerance, diversity and inclusion in our city and no one should live in fear as they walk the streets."
