Assemblyman: City Reprogramming Muni-Meters To Accept Advance Payments
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's one of the little annoyances about life in New York City: The muni-meters won't accept any money until they actually go into service for the day.
"The meter is there. It doesn't work until 9 o'clock," Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, told WCBS 880's Jim Smith. "You're in your car at 8:30 parked at the meter. You can't do anything."
Assemblyman: City Reprogramming Muni-Meters To Accept Advance Payments
Hikind said the city's Department of Transportation has agreed to reprogram every muni-meter in the city over the coming months to accept payments an hour before they go into service.
Hikind said when you deposit money an hour early, your clock won't start ticking until the meter goes into effect.
"This makes life very, very simple, and it's sort of a no-brainer," Hikind said. "It makes sense."
