Long Island Hotel Checks In To Breast Cancer Fight, Unveils Pink Room

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island hotel has decorated one of its rooms in pink to help fund breast cancer research.

A portion of the proceeds earned from those staying in the room at the Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook will go to the cause, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.

The luxurious room, the first of its kind in New York state, is decked out with pink walls, pink furniture and pink artwork. Hotel owner John Tusnis said, "This is going to be called our Pink Sweet -- S-W-E-E-T."

"I don't want to see that room empty," Tsunis said. "I hope it's the first room that gets rented."

Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Valerie Cartright, a breast cancer survivor, said the room sends a message.

"Breast cancer does not have to be a death sentence," she said. "It shouldn't be with all of this research that we have."

Added Town Supervisor Ed Romaine: "This is a horrendous disease that we can beat."
