Former Jets, Giants Players Inspire Kids At MetLife Stadium's Gridiron Games
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) –MetLife Stadium, home of the Jets and Giants, hosted dozens of children from across the five boroughs Saturday.
The kids hit the field, getting help from pros as they played the game of a lifetime.
Stepping onto the turf and playing football where their heroes take the field is what a lot of the children call a dream.
"The more you play, the better you get," former NFL player Billy Taylor said. "Be positive like I am."
As CBS 2's Ilana Gold reported, more than 150 players from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of New York City are stepping up their skills for the annual Gridiron Games.
"It's a very exciting moment to meet real football players. It can inspire you to actually motivate yourself how they play on the real football team," Malik Bryant said.
The pros aren't just teaching the kids how to play, they're encouraging them to do well in the future.
"It teaches them the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and illustrate their goals are in reach," Jared Landaw said, chair of the Gridiron Games.
The goal is that the children will thrive on the positive messages and dream big, pushing them to achieve future success.
"Maybe you can be able to play with real players," Bryant said.
Fourteen of the city's top law firms played in the games to raise money for the charity.
