Brooklyn Doctor Charged For Illegally Selling Prescription Pills

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A physician for 34 years, Dr. Schiller Desgrottes was charged Wednesday with the illegal sale of more than 200 prescriptions for 41,000 oxycodone pills.

As WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported, the doctor was allegedly selling those prescriptions to an accomplice who supplied him with 19 different names of runners-- people who would fill the prescriptions for cash.

The city's special narcotics prosecutor, Bridget Brennan, said the case shows how one corrupt medical practice in East Flatbush, Brooklyn can flood the black market with thousands of high addictive narcotics pills.

Brennan said the doctor's conduct was so cavalier that he even wrote a prescription for a person who had died.
