Massachusetts Man Carrying Shotgun Accidentally Shot At Port Authority Bus Terminal

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Authorities say a Massachusetts man carrying a shotgun inside a gym bag accidentally shot himself in the leg at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.

Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo says the man was waiting in line to board a bus at about 6 a.m. Saturday when his foot came into contact with the gym bag, triggering the weapon.

Pentangelo says the blast struck the man in the left calf. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury. A sawed off 12 gauge shotgun was recovered.

Pentangelo says charges are pending against the man, identified as 35-year-old Joseph Riddick, of Worcester. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.

Also on Saturday, a corrections officer working at the Brooklyn Detention Complex on Atlantic Avenue accidentally shot himself in the leg while holstering his gun.
