The veteran wide receiver was brought to tears during an elegant, understated rendition of the national anthem by Grammy-winning trumpeter Chris Botti on Monday night.
“I’m just blessed to be out there,” Wayne said after Indy’s 40-24 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. “It’s an emotional game, man. And sometimes it comes out.”
“An old wise guy once told me you shouldn’t hold back your tears,” he added. “Tonight was a night with the tears.”
