NEW LONDON, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A Connecticut state senator easily won re-election Tuesday despite injuries serious enough to prevent him from campaigning.
With all precincts in the southeast Connecticut Senate district reporting, Democratic Sen. Andy Maynard received 16,778 votes Tuesday. Republican Kevin Trejo had 11,858 votes.READ MORE: 4-Year-Old Boy Injured When Bullet Flies Through Window On Long Island
Maynard, a four-term lawmaker, suffered a serious fall in July. His family said in October he’s “increasingly cognizant, able to remember, walk on his own,” but that challenges remain for full recovery. They said they believe he’ll serve when the 2015 legislative session convenes in January.
