Injured Connecticut Sen. Andy Maynard Easily Wins Re-Election
NEW LONDON, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Connecticut state senator easily won re-election Tuesday despite injuries serious enough to prevent him from campaigning.
With all precincts in the southeast Connecticut Senate district reporting, Democratic Sen. Andy Maynard received 16,778 votes Tuesday. Republican Kevin Trejo had 11,858 votes.
Maynard, a four-term lawmaker, suffered a serious fall in July. His family said in October he's "increasingly cognizant, able to remember, walk on his own," but that challenges remain for full recovery. They said they believe he'll serve when the 2015 legislative session convenes in January.

Trejo had raised no campaign money and did little campaigning.
An Oct. 30 debate was canceled because of Maynard's condition. The Day of New London reported that Maynard did not vote and did not request an absentee ballot.
Maynard also has not made any public comment himself, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.
Trejo said he understands the delicacy of the situation, but that he's upset that constituents may not have a state senator to represent them when the Legislature is back in session. If he cannot serve, Maynard himself would have to request a special election himself, Trejo said.
"Normally, Andy would have to tell people that he wants to step down after the legislative season starts," Trejo told Schneidau.
