MatchPad Treats Roommate Hunting In NYC Like A Dating Service

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- What would you do if you just had to get away from your roommates?

You'd probably post an ad on Craigslist and then get ready for some awkwardness.

But MatchPad seems different. The online service matches people with potential roommates much like a dating site, co-founder Anne Kavanagh told WCBS 880's Alex Silverman.

Roommate seekers can meet their potential matches over a drink every Wednesday at Wicked Willy's, a raucous bar on Bleecker Street.

"The objective of the site is to make the process easier," Kavanagh said.

MatchPad Marketing Coordinator Alex Wood insists that, in our text-first world, the events are something people appreciate.

"People like it, I think," he said. "They want to meet people in real life."

A free drink and wings are a decent incentive, too.

Wood said the plan is to expand.

"We have this one in Greenwich Village right now," he said. "We'll have one in Brooklyn. We'll have one in Queens."

Chris, who said he's trying to escape accusatory roommates and bedbugs, hasn't found anyone yet, but his hopes are still high.

"I've met a few good people here," he said. "Had a good time."
