Man Held After In Violent Death Washington Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was in police custody late Monday, after another man was found dead with head trauma death in Washington Heights.

Around 4:45 a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to 2374 Amsterdam Ave., near 178th Street, for a call of an assault in progress. They found a man unconscious and unresponsive with head trauma at the scene, police said.

The victim, whose identity had not been released late Monday, was pronounced dead a short time afterward at NewYork Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center, police said.

A man in his 30s was taken into custody for questioning, and the investigation continued, police said.

No charges had been announced late Monday.
