It happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday in Williamsbridge.

Dune Janelle Jacobs, 31, was walking from her home to a neighborhood bodega when police said she was shot on East 213th Street and Carlisle Place.

A nearby resident called police after hearing gunshots and found Jacobs bleeding on the sidewalk, CBS2’s Hazel Sanchez reported. She was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“Everybody from all different countries are calling saying, ‘How could this happen to her? She’s such a nice person,'” Jacobs’ niece, Jada Carter, told Sanchez.

Jacobs’ family said she had just received a promotion from her job as a cook at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Brooklyn and was moving out of her Bronx neighborhood because she didn’t feel safe.

“She doesn’t like the people,” Carter said. “She said there’s too much gang activity and it’s kind of true because things like this happen to her.”

“She wasn’t involved in anything negative,” relative Richard Carter told 1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa. “She didn’t deserve this.”

Neighbors were stunned by the news of Jacobs’ death.

“Oh my God. I saw her yesterday,” said neighbor Pastor Eli Nutifafa.

“She never had an argument with anyone in the neighborhood I know,” said another neighbor.

Police are looking for three men who witnesses said fled in a white car.  The car was later found, but was empty.

Officers collected several bullet casings at the scene.

Police said the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and so far, there have been no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
