NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Protests continued in New York City Sunday night as demonstrators angry over the grand jury decision not to indict the officer in the Eric Garner case flooded Macy’s Herald Square.
Hundreds of protesters staged a “die-in” on the main floor of Macy’s. They also stopped the escalators and stood on them while holding their hands to their throats.
During the protest, a fire alarm was pulled and the department store had to be evacuated, CBS2 reported.
A short time earlier, hundreds of demonstrators converged on Grand Central Terminal, some of them holding signs and many of them chanting.
Photos also show the group sitting down inside the terminal’s grand concourse. During that time the demonstrators were silent.
Earlier Sunday, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said an internal NYPD investigation into Garner’s death has begun.
Several pastors also marched around New York City, including one that began at Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn.
The pastors said they want to spread a message of prayer and power in the face of an injustice.
