Florida Man Gets 28 Months For Role In Group That Stole, Sold Prescription Meds In N.J.

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Florida man has been sentenced to prison for his role with a group that stole prescription medication from a tractor trailer and sold it in New Jersey.

A federal judge in Newark sentenced Martin Lopez of Miami to 28 months in prison Tuesday. The 47-year-old Lopez had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess stolen prescription medicine.

The U.S. attorney's office says the shipment of prescription respiratory medicine was stolen in December 2009 on its way to Pennsylvania from its manufacturer in Texas. Lopez admitted he arranged to have the medicine delivered to a buyer in North Bergen.

Lopez and others split $64,000 in cash.

The wholesale value of the medicine was about $485,000.

One of Lopez's coconspirators was sentenced last December to 80 months in prison.
