Procedures To Combat 'Tell Zones' For A Woman's Age

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Does your face look 30 but your hands and neck make you look more like 50?

As CBS2's Kristine Johnson reported, with today's new procedures, you don't have to let these body parts reveal your true age.

Some celebrities look almost ageless on the red carpet, but if you take a closer look, it seems as though their hands are trying to betray them.

"A lot of times, women will treat the thing they see the most which is the face, and we completely forget about what I call the tell zones: the neck, the chest and the hands," said Dr. Kavita Mariwalla.

But now, there are a number of new procedures -- from fat grafts and hand-lifts to laser treatments and chemical peels -- that can help these problem areas match your younger looking face.

"Over the years, I've tried topical stuff that's supposed to be good for spots," said 81-year-old Millie Allocca.

Allocca said few people guess she's 81, but her hands -- she feels -- are a true giveaway.

Now, she's opting for a laser resurfacing procedure that will not only remove age spots, but also help tighten the skin, according to Dr. Mariwalla.

"There are procedures that don't have a lot of down time, don't need anesthesia," Dr. Mariwalla said.

Doctors say aging hands can also be rejuvenated with chemical peels and injectable fillers, Johnson reported.

Then there's the chest area. Ann Van Nostrand, 77, said the skin on her chest is so sun damaged, it looks older than her complexion.

But new laser treatments can stimulate cells within the skin to hep produce collagen and improve the skin's radiancy. It can also remove tiny veins and broken capillaries, reducing crepe-like skin.

As for the neck, doctors say the muscles are relatively weak, which can cause sagging and horizontal lines that can only be helped with Botox.

"One of the other things that you can do is laser treatment to firm the skin on the neck and what's coming down the pike are injections to actually help stiffen the fat," Dr. Mariwalla said.

Another body part that can betray your age is your knees. And now knee lifts are growing in popularity.
