NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Kate Middleton has wowed New York City with her style. But you don’t need a royal bank account to dress like the duchess.
While New Yorkers dressed for a fall storm rather than fall fashion on Tuesday, Middleton looked like the picture perfect princess.
Her royal maternity style mixes high-end fashion with affordable clothes.
Hilary Sheinbaum, a reporter for Life & Style Weekly, told CBS2’s Meg Baker Middleton’s style is attainable.
“Kate wears everything from Diane von Furstenberg to brands that you and I can afford, so she really likes to mix and match the highs and lows,” Sheinbaum said.
So, what makes Kate’s style so unique?
“Kate Middleton is a style icon, especially when she’s pregnant because she doesn’t compromise her style,” Sheinbaum said.
L.K. Bennett is known to be Kate’s favorite store. The one CBS2 visited in Columbus Circle has hefty price tags. As seen on the duchess, dresses go for $400 and up.
Her pumps, a classic nude four-inch heel, also cost about $400.
A sheepskin jacket costs about $1,250.
But she’s not all upscale. Kate has been spotted in Rosie Pope maternity clothing — the British clothing designer’s store located on the Upper East Side.
Store manager Pat Williams pointed out several pieces for day or night. The “Kate” dress is a fan favorite, with the versatile dress going for $188.
“We name all of our styles and this one happens to be the ‘Kate.’ It is a lot of inspiration,” Williams said.
Want to add some royal bling that Kate actually wears? How about a winter-white embellished dress for about $250?
“Kate’s style shows how relatable she is to the general public. We can dress like she dresses,” Sheinbaum said.
What else makes the duchess so relatable? She pulled her hair back like so many other New Yorkers battling the weather on Tuesday.
If you want to dress like Kate you’d better move quickly. L.K. Bennett said that when she’s spotted in one of its pieces, it sells out fast, Baker reported.
