Search Is On For Repeat Breast Pump Thief In New Jersey

BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a man seen in surveillance footage looks like a shopper, but is actually a breast pump bandit.

"The Burlington Coat Factory called us to report that they had a number of breast pumps stolen," Brick Township Police Chief, Nils Bergquist said.

The man walked into Burlington Coat Factory on Brick Boulevard last week, and tried to steal three Madela Freestyle Breast Pumps, priced at $339 each, police said. An employee stopped the man outside. He dropped the pumps and took off.

This isn't the first time the suspect has struck, authorities said. They also believe he shoplifted breast pumps from a Burlington Coat Factory in Freehold.

"It's definitely not a normal thing," Brianna Pesce said.

Most shoppers seemed puzzled by the bizarre crime, but mothers told CBS2's Tracee Carrasco that the expensive pumps are a hot commodity on the black market.

"If they're not used people will re-buy them. There's a lot of yard sale sites like that online people are buying things off of," Petri Funes said.

Police hope the surveillance video leads to an arrest.
